Tips and Tricks

Combine different searches

Did you know you could use several different search terms at the same time?

The different search terms available are; label, year, genre, artist, album and track.

For example, the search string label:EMI year:0000-2007 genre:house will give you every house song released by EMI before the year of 2008.

Link to a specific time

This is a very useful tip when sharing track tips to friends and others, especially when listening to club music. Spotify has made a little function which allows you to specify the time you want the song to begin at.

Simply add # followed by the time to a Spotify URI - or add %23 followed by a time to a Spotify URL.

For example, you want to tip your friend about the bass drop in Luigi Lusini’s Depth, simply type:

spotify:track:2Ag9CvCapsnh8phPQ0dEjl#2:45

or

http://open.spotify.com/track/2Ag9CvCapsnh8phPQ0dEjl%232:45

Shortcuts

Did you know you could drag your favorite songs, playlist, albums or artists onto the desktop? You can attach these shortcuts to e-mails, or store them on your usb memory. How clever is that?

Label Search

Again, I have a little trick to share with you. I wouldn’t make it without it! Many of you probably knows about it already, so don’t get too excited! What am I talkin about then?

The label-search function!

In the search field, just type label:”Any label you want. If the label is named Whist Records, type label:”whist+records”!

This is very useful if you know about a label with several great artists, but which names you can’t always remember! Here are some of my favorite labels:

Saving Playlists

Spotify is loaded with a bunch of smart, hidden features. Today, I’ll share another one with you.

As you probably have noticed, Spotify has had (and still has?!) a lot of problem with the playlist function the past weeks. Some of my playlists is still missing, but this little tip will hopefully prevent this problem in an easy way.

The Spotify URI is very helpful in many ways, and can be used to share searches, artists, and of course tracks and playlists. But did you know you can also copy a bunch of tracks URI’s at the same time to make backup copies of your playlists? Let me illustrate:

1. Use Shift or Ctrl+A to mark the tracks you want to copy. Right click and choose Copy Spotify URI.

2. Open a text editor, like WORD, and paste by pressing Ctrl+V.

3. Save the WORD file and when you need your playlist, go back to Spotify, create a new playlist, go to edit and choose Paste. Dadaa!

Clever, ha? This is not only very useful to make backup copies, but also when sharing your favorite tracks to others! Observe, this tip also works with the HTTP Link function!
