Summarizing the 00 decade
A playlist with all the tracks listed is available at the end of this post.
The 00’s was ten great years for music. Many factors has contributed to developing music of all genres. The possibility for everyone to produce their own music using a simple laptop, and of course - the internet! Sharing musical taste has never been easier, and the opportunity for an unknown artist to become a superstar simply by posting a demo on YouTube or myspace.
I’ve looked back and picked out some of the best or most important tracks and albums of the decade.
First of all, I’d like to elect The Knife as the band of the decade. They made electropop the genre of the 00’s and inspired both rock, pop and club producers. Listen to these tracks and u’ll know why!
I must also point out the success for our most well known commercial DJ’s. Armin Van Buuren, DJ Tiësto, David Guetta, Eric Prydz and Roger Sanchez to name a few, has made trance and house music extremely popular and widely accepted. Here are their best tracks (that are available on Spotify)
- Roger Sanchez - Another Chance
- Armin Van Buuren - Going Wrong
- Eric Prydz - Call On Me
- DJ Tiësto - Traffic
- David Guetta - The World Is Mine
The minimal house genre is getting more popular for each day, and I think house of the 10’s will be more aggressive, progressive and minimal. I’d say Mark Knight is the most important producer for the genre in total. He is definitely the king of club music in my eyes. He will lead, inspire and develop the genre further. Stephan Bodzin and Marc Romboy is two other important producers of the 00’s. They are sort of the front figures for minimal house. Finally, I hope Eric Prydz’ alter ego Pryda will continue to create the heaviest and greatest house music out there. Together with Deadmau5, they formed the peak of the progressive house genre.
- Mark Knight, Funkagenda - Man With The Red Face
- Stephan Bodzin - Papillon
- Marc Romboy - Karambolage
- Deadmau5 - Strobe
Ultimately, I have to pay tribute to Mylo and his wonderful remixes. He made one of the best house music album ever, and disappeared over a night. Please Mylo, come back. We miss you.
- Moby feat. Mylo - Lift Me Up
