Review: Deadmau5

Toronto’s Joel Zimmerman’s latest album, For A Lack Of A Better Name, was finally uploaded to Spotify (from today in Sweden too!). Deadmau5 has become to be one of the most discussed, loved and hated producers of the club scene. He is known for going towards the A-level hit-producers á Guetta and make heavy, chugging beats with more heart and soul into it than nothing else.

Zimmerman is a definite pioneer, mixing the heaviest imaginable house music with progressive rock and maybe even rap. Add organs taken from a 70’s horror movie, ambient strings, funky electro beats from the 90’s and industrial synth lines; the result is dead on target. The commercial club hits are not obvious, but I’m glad he doesn’t walk that road and instead catches peoples interests with his own special sound.

The finishing track, Strobe, is just epic. I will continue to listen to it, over and over again.

Enjoy,

  3. Actually I’m talking rubbish - got a “not in your country” at first but your link works fine now.

  4. I saw this release last week but with another URI that didnt work in Sweden. I guess they make them into one when the album is uploaded to all countries?
